Greetings one and all,
It’s been a bit of a crazy few months for me recently, hence the devoid lack of blogging on my website. I hope in the next couple of weeks to preview the county cricket season and start getting some more content driven through the site.
In January, I signed a 3 month attachment at BBC Radio Kent working as a broadcast assistant and broadcast journalist. This was fantastic news as it was my first full time contract with the beeb and gave me some financial and mental stability. I am hoping to continue in Tunbridge Wells until at least the end of the summer.
In that role, I have been mainly reading the sports news in the breakfast bulletins and writing content for the BBC website focused around local sport. This has meant I’ve been extremely busy and not had a great deal of time to blog.
The attachment with BBC Radio Kent has also seen me begin working on the news team occasionally, going out and producing packages for the breakfast show and cutting my teeth in the newsroom. A couple of my audio packages can be found on the audio section of my website. Whilst not my first love, I have learned a huge amount in just a few hours in this capacity and it’s thrilling working on stories outside my comfort zone.
Back on the sporty capacity and I have been given greater responsibility when it comes to reporting and have undertaken my first FM commentary when Plymouth entertained Gillingham a couple of weeks ago. This follows on from reports and increased commentaries in the Blue Square South, following Dartford in particular.
The cricket season is fast approaching too. BBC Radio Kent are hoping to at least match the coverage we provided last year. We’re just in the final stages of sorting budgets and staffing for the season so hopefully an announcement can be made shortly on that front. Safe to say I cannot wait to be back at the St. Lawrence Ground covering every ball of what is set to be an intriguing season for Kent. A really mixed up side from the one that ended last season. Better or worse? I’ll save that for another time!
In the meantime, have a little browse around the updated content on the site. When the cricket season commences, I hope to have daily round ups of the day’s play on here from all the games I attend.
All the best
